Cross-cultural studies show that throughout the world most individuals
lose some bone mass as they age. The remaining bone, however,
is healthy and capable of constant self-repair. This is normal
aging bone loss and this process leaves one with bones sufficiently
dense and strong enough to withstand the stresses and strains
of daily activity.
In osteoporosis, bone weakness goes beyond that caused by normal
aging. It is an abnormal condition in which bones becomes excessively
thin due to a loss of mineral and poor quality protein matrix.
