Better
Bones...Better Body...Better Health... Preventing, Halting and Managing Osteoporosis
As little as a decade ago it was uncommon to hear mention of osteoporosis.
But now, this "silent crippler" is a household word. Just like heart
health and cancer prevention, the preservation of life-long bone health is a topic
of growing public concern. Current statistics on osteoporosis in the US are as
follows:
- Today, 10 million people suffer from osteoporosis.
- Each
year over 1 1/2 million osteoporotic fractures occur.
- 1 out of 6 women
will suffer a hip fracture during their lifetime.
- The cost of osteoporosis
in the U.S. now exceeds $38 million a day or $13.8 billion a year.
- For
those who live into their late 80's, 1 out of 3 women will suffer a hip fracture,
as will 1 out of 6 men.
